Pennsylvania Rush Soccer

TOPS/Thunder Program

The Pennsylvania Rush Thunder is a part of the Total Outreach Program for Soccer (TOPS).  This is a national program, for soccer players with special needs.  This special needs program was established to promote the game as a unique segment of our club’s community.

Pennsylvania Rush Thunder Soccer’s Vision
To provide and environment where Special Needs players with mental and physical disabilities can participate in soccer training and play games. Our players will experience the joy of learning soccer skills and using them to play games.

The program is FREE.

We only have ONE prerequisite for each player….he/she must want to have fun playing the game of soccer!!!

We are looking for those individuals that would like to join our program to be a Buddy. Buddies are boys and girls ages 8+. Buddies will work with our players, taking directions from our trainers, assisting the players with staying on task and offering guidance.  Participating as a Buddy can earn you community service hours. February 26
10:00am - 1:00pm

Location TBD

Purpose: We are offering a training program to all who are interested in being a Buddy in our Special Needs Soccer program, Thunder (A TOPs program).  Mike Barr from Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association will be conducting the training.

We are also hoping to have a "Panel of Thunder Parents" for you to ask questions of.  Who would know better how to help a special needs player!

Alyssa Gogel, one of our own trainers, has many years working with special needs children.  She will open our session with some helpful information.

We are looking to have a couple other speakers.  It would be helpful if you would email me with any particular question or type of information you would like to learn.  Example: would a speech therapist be helpful to learn how to communicate with a non-verbal player.  How about a Special Needs gym teacher, would that be helpful for a "runner" or how to demonstrate and help a player.

Please give me your suggestions as to what you would like to learn!!

Thank you!

Betsy, Jim, Sharyn, and Alyssa
